The Ins and Outs of a PRI T1 Line
Short for "Primate Rate Interface", a PRI T1 line has become the standard for corporate telecom services.
So, what exactly do these lines do?
Each one is a digital phone line that carries 23 digital channels and one control channel. The control channel is used to carry extra information -- like caller ID and DID numbers.
Because they have 23 different channels, they can handle 23 different phone calls at once. That makes them perfect for call centers -- and a whole lot cheaper than installing 23 different phone lines!
If you want, you can integrate your PRI T1 line, which means that some of the channels will go towards phone service and some will go towards internet service. Luckily, these lines are strong enough to support large quantities of data, video, and voice information. (And, even luckier, integrated lines don't cost too much more than their phone-only counterparts.)
As an added benefit, you can rearrange your digital channels anytime you want. For example, if you need to have a video conference, you can dedicated several channels to real-time video streaming data. Then, when the conference is over, you can switch them back to the way they were set before.
Who needs a PRI T1 line?
Because they can hold such large quantities of data, these lines are perfect for medium and large businesses.
These lines are especially-perfect for businesses that spend a lot of time downloading information. That's because they're capable of transmitting data at 1.54 Mbps -- which means they are a whole lot faster than anything your cable company can come up with!
And, if you're a big business owner who's accustomed to handling big business deals, you'll be happy to hear that each PRI T1 line comes with an SLA (or, "Service Level Agreement"). While your local phone company may be willing to bend over backwards for you in the customer service department, they won't actually give you a contract that spells out everything that you're entitled to once you sign on the dotted line.
Luckily, the average PRI T1 line lives up to all of the responsibilities and obligations listed in the SLA. That's because it is much more reliable than any traditional phone line. When you invest in one, you'll wind up with clearer phone calls and faster service.
In short, a PRI T1 line is the wave of the future!
